Lau Gar Syllabus

Traditionally, in China, there was no formal grading system, although some schools are now adopting them. Lau Gar Kuen uses a familiar ranking system to help students understand the progressive nature of studying a traditional Chinese martial art. Students are required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the syllabus when taking a grading.

The Lau Gar Syllabus flows through 8 sashes:

White, Blue, Orange, Green, Yellow, Purple, Brown and Black

The Black sash is itself divided into 7 Degrees.

Your Journey From Novice to Black Sash

The route to Black Sash will be your path through the syllabus marked by each grade. No matter what avenue you might choose to take in your training the foundation is here. As you progress through the syllabus you will become aware of particular areas of focus relevant to each level you reach. With each grade there are opportunities to gain extra experiences, skills and knowledge through optional courses, such as weapons training and seminars run by Master Yau, along side the obligatory courses required at each stage of training.
